Foodie Traveler: Local Goat, Pigeon Forge, Tennessee

At the beginning of November, Stephan and I attended the IGES show and Smoky Mountain Gift Show in Pigeon Forge, Sevierville, and Gatlinburg, Tennessee.  This trip was stuck in between two comicons, so it was a quick one.

We visited one of the awesome moonshine distillery tasting rooms and asked our bartender where to get a good dinner. She mentioned a few options, but this was her top recommendation, so we decided to give it a try. It’s centrally located on the main road and very easy to find. We hiked up the steep parking lot to the front door and put our name on the list. The restaurant only had a few tables occupied at that point, but it was just opening for the evening and not all of the servers were on duty yet–hence the short wait. No worries–having a bladder the size of a Pomeranian puppy and coming from the tasting room, the wait gave me a chance to go to the restroom before we were seated!

After checking out the beer and wine list, we opted for two glasses of the Gypsy Circus Raindancer Cider. We both liked it a lot–not too sweet, not too dry. Would definitely order this again. We also decided to split a bowl of the crab and smoked shrimp bisque as an appetizer. Very rich, creamy, and with a decent amount of seafood. We were glad that we shared it, because it was so rich that if we had each gotten a bowl, it would have been too much. It was absolutely delicious though.

For our entrees, Stephan had the 10 oz pork chop, topped with sweet apples and onions, and served with whipped sweet potatoes and broccoli. I had the salmon with caramelized onion mashed potatoes and broccoli. Both were excellent. Tender, yummy, and just enough, though I would have liked a little more broccoli (but I might be just a little bit of a broccoli whore–it’s my favorite).

After the soup and the entrees (plus the cider and the moonshine…..), we were too full to consider dessert, but we’ll definitely give it a try the next time we’re in town! If you find yourself in the Pigeon Forge area, there are plenty of chain restaurants to try, but give yourself a treat and go local. Local Goat!
